We are a group of artisans living and working in Fes, Morocco.
For us, leatherwork is more than a job; it is a part of our daily rhythm. We grew up in a city where the scent of leather and the sound of hammers are everywhere. Most of us learned this trade by watching our parents and neighbors in the medina, picking up a needle and thread before we even finished school.
These lessons taught us how to handle leather with care and patience, and that spirit is what we bring to Tewtiw every day.
Our Story:
Tewtiw started as a way to bring local artisans together in one workshop. Fes has been the heart of Moroccan leather for centuries, and we wanted to make sure our community had a place to keep these traditions moving forward.
Today, our workshop in Fes serves as a hub where we can work together and support one another. We use methods that have been around since the founding of our city, passed down through families. When you hold one of our bags, you are holding a piece of that history and the knowledge that our teachers shared with us.
How We Make Our Bags
Making a bag takes time and a steady hand. Here is the process we follow in our workshop:
Sourcing: We get our leather from the local tanneries here in Fes. We work with cow, goat, and sheep hides.
Preparation: We prepare the leather by hand, checking each piece for the right thickness and texture.
Cutting: We don't use big machines for this. We lay out our patterns and cut each section of the bag by hand using sharp blades.
Stitching: Our artisans sit together to sew the pieces. We focus on the corners and stress points to make sure the bag holds up over time.
Details: We add the zippers, buckles, and linings that make the bag functional for your daily life.
The Finish: Every bag is cleaned and conditioned with natural oils before we pack it up.
Since leather is a natural material, you might notice small variations in the grain or color. We don't see these as flaws; they are the marks of the material and the hands that worked it.
