This page explains the materials used in Tewtiw products and how to care for them.

Materials

Tewtiw products are made from leather. Depending on the design, we use one or more of the following:

  • Goat Leather: A material offering flexibility and grain.

  • Lamb Leather: Material offering texture and feel.

  • Cow Leather: Material offering density and durability.

  • Buffalo Leather: Material offering thickness and texture; it develops character over time.

Leathers used by Tewtiw are sourced as a byproduct of the industry. Materials are listed in each product description.

Expectations for Leather

Because Tewtiw products are made by hand from materials, expect:

  • Grain pattern and surface texture: No two hides are identical.

  • Color tone: Dyes and tanning methods produce differences.

  • Stitching pattern: Hand-stitching has character.

These are characteristics of leather goods and part of what makes each product a unit.

Care Instructions

Daily Use

  • Avoid exposure to sunlight, which can cause leather to fade and dry.

  • Keep leather away from water. If it gets wet, allow it to dry at temperature. Do not use a heat source.

  • Avoid contact with oils, cosmetics, and products, which can stain.

Cleaning

  • For dust and dirt, wipe with a cloth.

  • Do not use household cleaning sprays, wipes, or solvents.

  • For marks, use a leather cleaner applied with a cloth in motions.

Conditioning

Apply a leather conditioner every 3–6 months.

Use a conditioner for the type of leather.

Apply an amount to an area to test for color change before application to the product.

Storage

Store in a place away from sunlight and humidity.

For storage, place the product in a dust bag. Avoid plastic bags.

Stuff the product with tissue paper to help it retain shape.

Hardware

CareMetal hardware (zippers, buckles, rings) should be wiped with a cloth. Avoid exposure to moisture, which can cause tarnishing. Do not use polish on hardware
